Guide To Buying A GPHG 2017 – Mechanical Exception category Replica Clearance

Présentation de la catégorie Mécanique d'Exception

The Mechanical Exception category of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève brings together the ultimate in sophistication and innovation. But that’s the thing. Sophistication and innovation represent two very different kinds of watches. A A Lange Sohne Glashutte 1 Sa Price Replica is considered sophisticated when it offers many different indications. It’s innovative when it offers new ways of doing things, and this could apply to simple functions as much as to complicated ones. Neither approach is better than the other – they are both vital to the progress of watchmaking. All we can do is sit back, and wait for the jury to announce which they have decided to reward this year.

The Tourbograph Perpetual “Pour le Mérite” offers a bundle of complications that is unusual these days for its breadth, but also because it represents a catalogue of everything A. Lange & Söhne can do. The Tourbograph, a tourbillon and chronograph combined, has been around for some time, but here Lange has added its perpetual calendar, plus a fusée-and-chain transmission. The constant force mechanism is what the “Pour le Mérite” designation refers to, in the Saxon company’s lexicon. Girard-Perregaux has chosen a similar approach to complication, but with the accent on three-dimensionality. The tourbillon of the Planetarium Tri-Axial pivots around three axes, performing spherical revolutions. Alongside the tourbillon there is a world globe that rotates at a more stately pace, as well as a moon phase indication and an off-centre time display.

The rattrapante chronograph also gives us the best reason to turn the A. Lange & Söhne Tourbograph Perpetual ‘Pour Le Mérite’ about and have a better look in its caseback. It is one metropolis of a movement, really enjoy a small-scale town of plates and gears. A complicated Lange, and notably a chronograph, will forever be one of the most splendid-looking calibers in all of watchmaking history. As we have seen together with the Lange Double Split, there’s not just one, but two column wheels in the movement. As you can see on the picture above, this column wheel is directly connected to the 2 arms that control the dividing (or rattrapante) purpose: a few extremely finicky geometrics come to perform to prevent and let go of the wheel linked to one of both central chronograph seconds hands. Another column across the motion (the one to the left to the picture below) serves as a normal chronograph function’s column wheel, accountable for stopping and starting the chronograph itself. There are easy moves that amaze with their finishing and there are not-so-amazingly completed complex movements that amaze with their overpowering layout. The Tourbograph combines the two and creates a watch that’s a sensual overload with a window on a world where stunning surface treatments and decorations meet with some of the challenging geometrics and interactions of elements.

Let’s stick with the dial side and start with its most immediately apparent feat: its proudly displayed tourbillon bridge and meeting. The bridge itself features a curve on each end that is observable from the smallest of viewing angles. Take a closer look and you will see what appears to be one of the most difficult anglages ever: at the form of a “V” the edges are bevelled and polished by hand. Both prongs lead to a golden chaton with a diamond endstone inside — a long-forgotten element reserved for just the best pocket sequences of old.The tourbillon’s cage itself features remarkably romantic curves and eye-wateringly mirror polished top surfaces. The second image above shows how that mirror end functions: it is either silky-shiny whitened, or pitch black. Because the tourbillon stays so deep under the dial, mild finds humorous ways to create it into only some bits and pieces of the tourbillon assembly — a different, but brilliant light show on display.Lange say the tourbillon “overcomes the pull of gravity” and I am sorry, but I can’t help but cringe every time I hear or read that. Jedi and astronauts onboard the ISS may overcome the pull of gravity, but not many others — and a tourbillon certainly can’t. It is not 2002 anymore, once the tourbillon is a mysterious thing that’s not possible to describe. I might be nitpicking here, sure, but what can it be if not focus and understanding of these details that we anticipate from the big guns like Lange? The tourbillon, entirely exposed to the pull of gravity, over time averages out the speed errors of this watch’s timekeeping organ, something mostly and totally unnecessary at a wristwatch, unless we’re speaking multi-axis tourbillons.
The initials “JAP,” for Jules Audemars and Edward Piguet, founders of Audemars Piguet, appear on the gong block. Audemars Piguet may in fact have made not only the gongs however, the whole movement: in these days, it was common for European A. Lange & Söhne Pocket Watch Replica companies to buy raw movements from Swiss businesses and complete them for their own specifications. The watch almost dropped into oblivion. In 2001, a married couple attracted it to Lange’s headquarters at Glashütte to learn if it had been worth fixing. A housekeeper they understood had received it as a gift more than a half-century earlier. The answer wasn’t obvious. In a publication about the watch that the company printed in 2010, Lange watchmaker Jan Silva explained the watch’s condition: “Where there could normally be a complicated, delicate mesh of springs, bridges and brakes, there was nothing to be seen but a gray-brown, amorphous mass …. Only the larger components of the motion were still identifiable.” Silva led a group of four watchmakers that restored the motion to pristine condition. It took five years; the dismantling procedure alone took three months. The see’s case was designed from the industrial designer Carl Ludwig Theodor Graff from the Louis XV style. The front bears an engraving of this goddess Minerva; the rear is adorned with the initials “G.S.” No one understands whose initials they’re. Unlike the motion, the situation and the dial were in excellent condition when the watch resurfaced in 2001.

Vacheron Constantin has pushed the envelope with 23 complications. The Celestial Astronomical is a mechanical computer for astronomical functions and indications. This one-of-a-kind piece (further examples may be commissioned on request) represents a unique and uniquely comprehensive catalogue of functions. It nevertheless remains portable, legible and practical, with a 3-week power reserve and, incredibly, a thickness of just 13.6 mm. We have seen many thicker watches offering far fewer complications.

The Grande Complication is currently on loan to the Mathematics and Physics Salon, a museum in Dresden devoted to historic timepieces and scientific instruments. In 1990, right after German reunification, the German automotive firm VDO purchased the title “A. Lange & Söhne” and established a brand new A. Lange & Söhne, established, such as the original firm, in Glashütte. (In 2000, the Richemont Group obtained A. Lange & Söhne.) Among the new firm’s first watches, the Lange 1, established in 1994, became Lange’s signature design, exactly what the company refers to as its “face.” The Lange 1, which looks the same as it did 20 years back, has a distinctive, conversational dial with a big-date display and “Auf/Ab” power-reserve index. It comprised the hand-wound Caliber L901.0, with 2 barrels, a three-day power reserve, nine screwed gold chatons, Glashütte three-quarter plate, a hand-engraved balance penis and elegant swan’s-neck fine adjustment mechanism. (Earlier this year, the business replaced that caliber using a brand new one, additionally hand-wound.)

In recent years, much horological innovation has focused on minute repeaters, and two of the most remarkable initiatives in this direction are going head to head in this category. The Audemars Piguet Supersonnerie incorporates the sound amplification concepts we have already seen in the grand complication Royal Oak Concept, but inside a Jules Audemars case (this A. Lange & Sohne Antique Watches Replica marks the launch of a new iteration of this model). Here, however, it’s all about the sound. The apertures in the caseback are connected to a copper resonance membrane (providing acoustic resonance, not frequency).

In opposition, Chopard is presenting its most innovative watch, the watch to which the company has devoted more development efforts than any other in its history: the Full Strike. What makes it different are its many safety features, its considerable striking reserve, and above all, its unique approach to sound generation. In this L.U.C watch, the two gongs that create the sound are carved from the same block of sapphire as the watch crystal. As they are of a single piece, they behave like a loudspeaker, producing a sound that is crystal clear, literally.

The movement is your hand-wound Caliber L043.1, which has 415 components and steps 33.6 millimeters in diameter. Its equilibrium oscillates in a leisurely frequency of 18,000 vph. (To read our evaluation of the first Lange Zeitwerk, click here.) This view is significantly more than a traditional perpetual calendar. Turn it on and you’ll see one of the very complex and unconventional moon-phase screens ever made. Surrounding the earth is a disc decorated with 2,116 celebrities. (Their positions don’t correspond to those of actual stars; Lange calls the arrangement a “fantasy sky.”) A third disk, for exhibiting the stage of the moon, lies under an aperture at the star disk. The earth disk rotates counterclockwise after every 24 hours; you may observe the time anywhere in the world by speaking to the 24 hour markers on the ring surrounding the display. The moon orbits the earth once every synodic month, i.e., once every 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 3 minutes. The watch’s balance, visible through the caseback, signifies the sun: when the moon is between the earth and the balance, the moon disc is all blue, representing the new moon. When it is on the other side of the planet, it is all gold, representing the entire moon. The moon display is so true that it will be 1,058 years before it needs to be corrected by a single day.

But innovation can take other forms, for instance in new approaches to abstruse concepts such as resonance. Armin Strom created a stir with its Mirrored Force Resonance. It improves the precision of a double-escapement system by using resonance to synchronise the two components. In this instance, the two escapements are linked by a spring-shaped component, which causes them to synchronise. The Replica A Lange & Sohne Watches Uk Replica design as a whole is also extremely striking.

Whether the approach comes from a big brand or a small firm, whether it’s classical or iconoclastic, elegant or cutting-edge, this category brings together some major statements in terms of technology, image and, above all, philosophy.

It is filigree and yet rocky in a way few movements with ~700 elements are. Each of the components appear to have substantial volume to them, nearly begging the question why so many other movements we view incorporate fragile-looking little springs and cams inside their own design. The Tourbograph resembles a beautifully decorated machine that dwarfs other movements.Hidden deep inside the bowels of the L133.1 is a fusée and chain transmission system, designed to ensure a more even delivery of torque as the mainspring unwinds within its short, 36-hour power book — 36 hours is indeed short, however a shorter than average power book isn’t exactly unusual one of such outrageously complicated moves. The series itself is 636 components, but Lange counts it as you (yes, one) component from the 684 part count of the motion itself. On the wrist, the 43mm-wide and whopping 16.6mm-thick platinum instance is a hefty, heavy monster. It wears fine, but the weight of this case as well as the ~1,400 elements inside it do make for a very hefty watch. Weapons grade, I believe is the term. Few watches make me feel invincible, but this one failed in its own odd way — as it, in all fairness, is a fragile thing.
