Another Baselworld 2016 introduction is brought to us by Eterna. Now, my friends, this is not really new per se since it features most of its predecessor’s successful components and just added something that could be of great use using the latest technology. As some of you will agree that Eterna has a good reputation among replica watch collectors. I mean they have all the gorgeous collectibles icons since 1947 through 1962 and to date. Certainly enough the KonTiki line is the most popular collection from Eterna and we will all be happy for the Baselworld 2016 because they are finally bringing back to life this vintage replica watch with a flair for current technology.
So without further ado, my friends let us all welcome the Eterna Super KonTiki Chronograph featuring vintage highlights. First on the list is the case which is of course made from a high-grade stainless steel material suitable for diving. Its 45 mm size is just the standard for a diver’s replica watch so nothing fancy about this. However when it comes to its shape you could easily see the beautiful and iconic 1970’s KonTiki as its source of inspiration. It has also a rotating bezel featuring a large and legible 60-minute scale which was also pioneering for the KonTiki model. Perhaps what I like about it though is its integrated lugs and tonneau profile, a clear tribute to its past designs. I like its handsome pushers and robust crown bringing harmony to the whole case design. The chronograph movement is the only additional stuff that makes the Eterna Super KonTiki Chronograph new so if you are an avid Eterna collector what are you waiting for?
As for its dial which still boasts vintage styles we see the same gorgeous black dial with large luminous indexes. If you are familiar with Eterna you will understand that one of the features that they could not part is the specific triangular index which also happens to be the brand’s signature profile. The large hands are also graciously filled with luminous coatings for perfect legibility which is of course very helpful for diving purposes or even for seeing in poorly lit areas. We can also see the chronograph functions via a central second hand which is clearly vintage inspired while the 30-minute counter is at the 3. Furthermore, there is a small second at 9 and a date at 6.
What powers is the Eterna Super KonTiki Chronograph is the in-house Calibre 3916A movement belonging to the 39 family of classic Eterna movements sporting 60 hours of power reserve. Note that we are not talking about an integrated movement here since the chronograph movement is clearly an additional component specifically designed to be fitted on top of the main movement and you even see this add-on module through the sapphire caseback. The Calibre 3916A feature a flyback function for optimum chronograph adjustment and a column wheel too. Furthermore, the movement is finished with circular Geneva stripes complete with bead blasting and blued screws.
The new Eterna Super KonTiki Chronograph retains its diving capability with 200m limit and comes with either black rubber strap or metallic Milanese bracelet. For more info, please visit eterna.com
